Job Description

Although there is an office base you should note that most of your time will be spent out of the office.  You will spend a lot of time out on home visits working with parents and carers, and supporting clinics.   A summary of some key duties are given below but a full outline is given in the job description at the end of the information pack.  

The Healthcare Support Worker assists the Health Visitors to support families in a number of ways:

Entry Requirements

National 5 English plus 2 other subjects at National 4. You must be in possession of these qualifications before applying.

As well as meeting the academic criteria your application should also demonstrate that you possess the interpersonal and team skills we are looking. You should refer to the information pack for detailed guidance.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic to learn and has a positive approach to work.  However, we also need someone who has a caring nature, an interest in people and ability to deliver a very important service to the families we work with.

Communication and interpersonal skills are extremely important in this role.  Being able to develop and maintain effective relationships within the team, with families and with other agencies is key to doing the job well.   The emotional demands of the job can be significant, especially when supporting vulnerable families and particularly if there are child protection issues involved.  The job also requires the ability to work in a range of environments which includes: family homes, GP practices, community settings. 

It is a busy job with a broad range of duties and you will be expected to work closely with the rest of the team, and with people from other organisation.  This post requires an individual who, with training and support, can ultimately work on their own initiative and unsupervised when out on visits.

Training

You will be working towards an SVQ in Social Services (Children & Young People) Level 3.

All candidates who successfully complete all elements of the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Modern Apprenticeship Programme are guaranteed permanent employment.
