Job Description

We are recruiting an Apprentice to train as a Payroll Administrator, supporting the wider Staff Rostering and Expenses teams.

The Payroll Services covers: Payroll, Pensions, Expenses, Car Leasing & Staff Rostering. Collectively we are responsible for ensuring that all employees are paid accurately and on time, and provide advice and guidance on pay related matters across the Health Boards we provide services to.

Payroll Services don’t just provide a service to NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde – we also provide a range of services to a number of other Health Boards and local hospices – NHS Western Isles, The National Waiting Times Centre, The State Hospital, Accord Hospice, Ardgowan Hospice and St. Vincents Hospice.

We deal with many different organisations – including HM Revenue & Customs, Sherriff Officers, pensions agencies/providers, IT companies, banks.

You will have a wide range of duties which means that you will have to prioritise your workload so that you meet deadlines.  On occasions there may be conflicting deadlines so it is important to know when to ask for help. 

You will be working in an open plan office with other colleagues and it is important to have good interpersonal skills and not be distracted when working on tasks that require good concentration.

Entry Requirements

National 5 Maths plus 2 other subjects at National 4 including English. You must be in possession of these qualifications before applying.

As well as meeting the academic criteria you must also demonstrate in your application that you are numerate and possess good attention to detail, problem solving skills and the ability to multi task.  Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential.

The most important personal qualities you will have is the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and members of the public, a willingness to be flexible, help your colleagues and be  willing to learn new skills.

All candidates who successfully complete all elements of the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Modern Apprenticeship Programme will move into permanent employment within the organisation.
